PROFESSIONAL DAY FOR SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS

“Shame and Grace”

THIS PROGRAM WILL BE RESCHEDULED FOR A LATER DATE TBA

Monday, January 18, 2021 - Postponed - TBA date

10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Scripture tells us that we are "wonderfully, beautifully made" and yet many of us struggle to believe that.  Feeling that we don't measure up, or that we are "not good enough", or are unworthy, we are burdened by a heaviness that makes it hard for us to rejoice in our own creation or much of anything else for that matter.

Shame is a persistent feeling that we are unacceptable, maybe unworthy and less than the good person we are supposed to be.  It is a vague, undefined heaviness that presses the spirit, dampens our gratitude for the goodness of life, and slackens the free flow of joy.  Shame can also lead us to make choices that are not life-giving for ourselves and sometimes for others as well.

The good news is that shame never is of God so shame can indeed be healed through spiritual experiences - experiences of amazing grace.

This workshop will offer time for discussion and silent reflection and prayer, as well as group sharing.  Together we will explore the differences between healthy shame and the toxic shame that binds us and weighs us down; the sources of shame; and the important part grace plays in healing shame.

We hope you will join us as we take a long, soft look at shame and first steps toward living the joy-filled life God intended for us to live.
